The measurement of somatic cells (immune cell) in the milk is normally used in the dairy industry to assess the severity of mammary inflammation. The concentration of cytokine (IL-8) triggers the infiltration of immune cells, which causes increase in the number of immune cells during inflammation observed both in bovine and human milk.
Differential cell count results in buffalo milk have differed from findings in cow milk (Silva and Silva, 1994; Dhakal, 2004; Thomas et al., 2004; Piccinini et al., 2006); this prompted us to perform additional studies to compare the effectiveness of different measures of mammary inflammation in buffalo.
The current study areas are having higher tick prevalence; thorny bushes and general habit of tying of teats with bushes pave the way to get mammary inflammations (Woubit et al., 2001; Abdurahman, 2006).
