The
mutton snapper Lutjanus analis is the most commercially important species of the Lutjanidae family (Bortone & Williams, 1986; Claro, 2001).
The species reported most frequently in southeast Florida were yellowtail snapper,
mutton snapper, gray snapper, white grunt and gray triggerfish.
This is also a feature that has been reported for many snapper species in Brazil, such as
mutton snapper Lutjanus analis (Cuvier, 1828), dog snapper L.
Riley's Hump is a documented spawning site for
mutton snapper (Lutjanus analis), and recordings of black grouper, red grouper, and red hind indicate that it is used for reproductive purposes by these species as well.
Five years after the creation of a marine reserve in the Dry Tortugas, just 70 miles from Key West, researchers saw significant increases in the size and abundance of once-overfished species, such as black and red grouper and
mutton snapper.
Red grouper, Epinephelus morio (n = 45), were the primary emphasis for this study, with sensitivityruns performed using parameterizations from the movements of opportunistically tagged black grouper, Mycteroperca bonaci (n = 3), and
mutton snapper, Lutjanus analis (n = 3).
Twelve lutjanids species, including
mutton snapper Lutjanus analis (Cuvier 1828), are caught representing about 12.5% of the total commercial landings controlled in the Ceara, Rio Grande do Norte and Pernambuco States (Resende et al.
The dining is a blend of American, Italian, and Cuban recipes specializing in native seafood, including
mutton snapper, grouper, and lobster, with choices of two or three entrees.
While this surface action is taking place the bottom rod goes off with a kingfish, cobia, bonito, grouper,
mutton snapper or amberjack hooked to the line.
Currently it is estimated that more than 200 species with experimentally determined cryoconservation protocols only 40 protocols are from marine species (Thirumala et al., 2006), and in Brazil had only four marine species protocols for sperm cryoconservation determined: Brazilian flounder Paralichthys orbignyanus (Valenciennes, 1839) (Lanes et al., 2008), fat snook Centropomus parallelus (Poey, 1860) (Tiba et al., 2009), dusky grouper Epinephelus marginatus (Lowe, 1834) (Sanches et al., 2009), and
mutton snapper Lutjanus analis (Cuvier, 1828) (Sanches et al., 2013).
Abstract--Genetic structure and average long-term connectivity and effective size of
mutton snapper (Lutjanus analis) sampled from offshore localities in the U.S.
April is a great month to go visit your favorite ledge or wreck for
mutton snapper. I spoke with Dale Miner, a freelance mate from Stuart, and he explained his tactics when it comes to mutton fishing in April.
