We used the PubMed database for articles published up to May 2016 using the following relevant keywords: hypopharynx and ("small cell carcinoma" or "oat cell carcinoma" or "neuroendocrine carcinoma"), mixed with a hand search of reference sections of relevant papers, we found thirteen cases [7-18] of the primary hypopharyngeal origin since the first case was described in 1980 [7].
