Results: Under both the real-face and face-pareidolia conditions, activation was observed in the Prefrontal Cortex (PFCX),
occipital cortex V1,
occipital cortex V2, and inferior temporal regions.
In all three groups, lutein was differentially distributed across brain areas, with the highest concentrations in the
occipital cortex (which is involved in visual processing).
A prior study had suggested that these effects persisted following abstinence, because concomitantly binge drinking and marijuana using adolescents showed greater thickness in the ACC, medial temporal gyrus, lingual gyrus, and
occipital cortex both before and after 28 days of monitored abstinence.
The BA7 area of parietal cortex and BA19 area of
occipital cortex were demonstrated to play a key role in the binocular stereo vision [3].
Experimental results of interstate difference of neural activity demonstrated that alterations in HS were mostly located in the
occipital cortex, cerebellum, and prefrontal cortex (Table 2; Figure 3).
Compared to healthy controls, local metabolic connectivity was significantly decreased within the
occipital cortex, thalamus, and cerebellum of DLB patients.
Existing literature points out that right inferior temporal and
occipital cortex GM volume values decrease in professional video game players and in the patients suffering from addiction of online games when compared with healthy controls [23].
Interestingly, this finding has not been reported in any previous fMRI study on PI, whereas it fits with prior evidence of abnormal FC pattern within the
occipital cortex in sleep-deprived healthy subjects [21].
Dr Al Madani says he has used a magnetic device that patients clip to their head for 20 minutes a day to stimulate the brain's
occipital cortex.
In the Seed-to-Voxel analysis, the AIPS revealed lower connectivity in the premotor and primary somatosensory cortices, the superior frontal gyrus, and the lateral
occipital cortex in the patients compared to controls (Figures 9 and 10).
MRI with DWI, ADC, and T2/FLAIR showed diffusion restriction and hyperintense signal throughout the left
occipital cortex (Figures 2(e), 2(f), and 2(g)).
