Takayasu's arteritis (TAK) is a rare chronic inflammatory disease characterized by panarteritis of large arteries (1).
The aneurysms of the visceral branches of the aorta are frequently associated with other atheromatous vascular wall anomalies; there have also been described congenital aneurysms, due to vascular wall anomalies (Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Marfan syndrome, panarteritis nodosa) or secondary to trauma or infections (infective endocarditis, syphilis) (Pepin et al 2000; Raat et al 1993; Christides 1992).
Additional associated findings included thyroid follicular adenoma that also showed GCA (18) and acute necrotizing panarteritis involving the small vessels in a muscle biopsy.
(4) The TAB in our patient revealed panarteritis with a predominant lymphocytic and histiocytic infiltrate, which is consistent with the histological pattern of GCA.
