Some of the popular types of alcohol are ethanol, methanol, butanol, pentanol, ethylene glycol, sorbitol and xylitol among many others.

2-Methyl-2-butanol (MBT) is a branched pentanol. It is a colorless flammable liquid with a pungent odor of camphor, used primarily as a pharmaceutical or pigment solvent and as a raw material for synthetic perfumes and pesticides.
For the butanol and pentanol candidates these peak solubility potentials shifted towards higher blend concentrations as can be seen in Figures 8-10 (for 1-butanol).
Methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol, and pentanol were purchased from Beijing Chemical Corporation.
By the end of the fermentation of Criollo cacao (3 days), predominant amounts of volatiles with floral, fruity, and woody aromas including linalool, epoxylinalool, benzeneethanol, pentanol acetate, germacrene, a-copaene, aromadendrene, 3,6-heptanedione, butanal, 1-phenyl ethenone, 2-nonanone, and 2-pentanone were detected.
Pentanol is also an attractive second-generation bio-fuels and can be produced from renewable feedstock.
Most identified enhancers can be classified as: alcohols (ethanol, pentanol, benzyl alcohol, lauryl alcohol, propylene glycols and glycerol), fatty acids (oleic acid, linoleic acid, valeric acid and lauric acid), amines (diethanolamine and triethanolamine), esters (isopropyl palmitate, isopropyl myristate and ethyl acetate), amides (1-dodecylazacycloheptane-2-one [AzoneA(r)], urea, dimethylacetamide, dimethylformamide and pyrrolidone derivatives), hydrocarbons (alkanes and squalene), surfactants (sodium laureate, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, BrijA(r), TweenA(r) and sodium cholate), terpenes (D-limonene, carvone and anise oil), sulfoxides (dimethyl sulfoxide) and phospholipids (lecithine).
(1999) reported that the peroxidation products of unsaturated fatty acids were lower in the DawDam bran fraction during storage than in cultivars with LOX-3 in their seeds; the amounts of hexanal, pentanal, and pentanol in normal raw rice markedly increased during storage at 35[degrees]C, whereas in rice that did not contain LOX-3, the levels did not increase to the same extent (Figure 3).
