pho·to·e·lec·tric

(fō′tō-ĭ-lĕk′trĭk)
Relating to the electrical effects of light. For example, exposure to light can bring about the emission of electrons from a material, the generation of an electric current, or a change in the electrical resistance of a material. ♦ The emission of electrons from a material, such as a metal, as a result of being struck by photons (light) is called the photoelectric effect.
