THE Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria-Partnership for Advocacy in Child and Family Health at Scale (PSN-PAS) project says Community Pharmacists (CPs) and Patent and Proprietary Medicines Vendors (PPMVs) are key in achieving 27 per cent modern Contraceptive Prevalence Rate (mCPR) by 2020.
The 1279 respondents, 20 years and above, who sought treatment for their illness from the PPMV outlets were: 188 from Enugu State, Cross River (229), FCT (213), Kaduna (256), Adamawa (188), and Lagos State (205).
Of the remaining 127 providers, 25 were clinics, maternity homes or hospitals (henceforth referred to as "clinics"); 20 were pharmacies; 25 were drug shops, known in Nigeria as patent and proprietary medicine vendors (PPMVs); and 57 were licensed community health workers (CHWs) who had been trained by the social marketing organization to proactively engage women in community-based settings, counsel them on method choice and provide contraceptive products.
