This has been no less true of South Africa's recent history, peopled as it was with eminently ridiculable, mockable, satirisable
politicians possessed of a pathologically abject Calvinist seriousness.
One of the anonymous referees draws the attention to Menippean Satire, where the polymath is satirisable
(and routinely satirised) for the very things that are used as tools/weapons of satire (deep, detailed antiquarian learning).
Some friendlier people have pointed out, however, that this column so frequently oscillates between fantasy and reality in its attempts to satirise what is satirisable
in this wonderful sport that it would be quite a good idea if I made it clear when I am fantasising and when not.
