En 1869, retomo el tema en The Lancet, en su escrito "On Organic Affections and Injuries of the Spinal Cord, Producing some of the Symptoms of Spinal Hemiplegia", afirmando que "una lesion en uno de los cordones laterales de la medula produce: paralisis de movimientos voluntarios ipsilateral, anestesia al tacto, cosquilleo, dolor y cambios en la temperatura del lado contralateral, paralisis de la sensibilidad muscular ipsilateral" (1).
