The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said in its advisory "Dorian Finally Moving Northwestward and Growing in Size." It added, "many new Hurricane Watches and Warnings have been issued for the Carolinas with multiple threats expected across the southeastern United States." The Center warned, "life threatening storm surge
and dangerous winds are expected along portions of the Florida east coast and the coasts of Georgia and South Carolina, regardless of the exact track of Dorian's center." It noted that the life threatening storm surge
and "hurricane force winds" continues to increase along the coast of North Carolina.
In preparation for the arrival of the hurricane, the NHC has released a new batch of storm surge
warnings and watches as well as hurricane warnings for various areas in Florida.
This will maximize the storm's potential storm surge
flood threat in a state that is already Ground Zero for sea level rise-related risks.
The RMS estimate represents insured losses from wind, storm surge
and inland flood damage, including losses to the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
He said the research came out of the need to accurately predict storm surges
, given the devastating impact of such events on low-lying areas, noting that most of Jamaica's coastline is prone to storm surge

warning system, this time underscoring the impact of storm surges

and the risks associated with it."
That estimate covers insured losses relating to wind and storm surge
damage across Florida, Georgia and other parts of the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, including losses to the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) ranging from $250 million to $750 million, RMS said.
The NHC said life-threatening storm surge
is possible along the coasts of the Florida Panhandle, Big Bend and Nature Coast, where storm surge
warnings have been raised.
