2 December 2009 - Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development LLC (J&JPRD), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ), said yesterday it has submitted a New Drug Application (NDA) to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for tapentadol extended release (ER) tablets, an oral analgesic for the management of moderate to severe chronic pain in patients 18 years of age or older.
The analyst notes that it appears the company's pain products - Duragesic patch and Nucynta/ER - accounted for less than 1% of the Oklahoma Medicaid opioid prescriptions from 1996-2017, while the company's slides also show data that fentanyl and tapentadol have lower abuse rates and diversion rates versus oxycodone and hydrocodone.
