The musical technique of manipulating the output of one or more phonographic turntables, especially by sliding records back and forth under the needles to produce sounds and rhythmic effects not present on the original recordings.

turntablism

A distinct form of hip hop music in which the music that forms the backing track for the vocalist (rapper) in traditional hip hop music becomes the central element of the performance. Turntablists manipulate vinyl records on multiple turntables to create their music.
