Gouty arthritis is the most common manifestation in patients with gout; however, chronic HUA can cause or aggravate the damage to multiple organs, which may be complicated by renal disease (acute urate nephropathy, chronic urate nephropathy, and nephrolithiasis), hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, hypertension, coronary heart disease, cardiac insufficiency, and stroke.[36]
Acute urate nephropathy was present in four cases out of which three cases were of acute leukemia and one case had multiple myeloma.
Hyperuricemia also induces renal disease, either under the form of urate nephropathy (the interstitial deposition of urate crystals, surrounded by an inflammatory reaction) or under the form of uric acid kidney stones (whose precipitation is favoured by the acid pH of the urine, and inhibited by alkaline foods such as dairy products).
