Open, Laparoscopic, and Robotic Radical Nephroureterectomy and Distal
Ureterectomy Techniques
This analysis is limited by the absence of patients who underwent renal-conserving management including segmental
ureterectomy and endoscopy.
Modified surgeries, such as aggressive endoscopic resection or segmental
ureterectomy, can be considered for low-grade disease; small, distal lesions; or in patients whose renal function is tenuous (Schimke, Wood, & Flick, 2017).
Segmentary
ureterectomy termino-terminal anastomosis or ureteral reimplantation into the bladder is performed in cases of intrinsic ureteral disease or extensive ureteral obstruction [93].
Pelvic CT and cystoscopy did not provide any diagnostic information; however, uneven thickening of the bladder wall caused suspicion of a neoplastic lesion, resulting in surgical excision including transurethral resection and
ureterectomy with ureteroneocystostomy.
Robotic distal
ureterectomy with boari flap reconstruction for distal ureteral urothelial cancers: a single institutional pilot experience.
In pediatric patients, endoscopic incision, upper-pole heminephrectomy, and partial upper
ureterectomy are alternative treatments.
Surgery is the mainstay treatment for squamous cell carcinoma of renal pelvis, nephrectomy with or without
ureterectomy is performed in these cases.
Nephroureterectomy with bladder cuff excision or segmental
ureterectomy using an open or laparoscopic technique remains the treatment of choice for upper urinary tract malignances except for select patients who have either compromised renal function or small, low-grade disease that can be controlled with endoscopic ablation.
In adults with a poorly functioning kidney, as was the present case who also had non functioning kidney on nuclear scan, nephroureterectomy was the logical option Nouralizadeh et al.reported the second largest leiomyoma of ureter which was diagnosed preoperatively and partial
ureterectomy was done.12
These included a bilateral
ureterectomy, hysterectomy, bilateral inguinal hernia repair, laparotomy for bowel obstruction, appendectomy, cholesystectomy for gallstones, chronic transplant rejection and infection, herpes zoster, herpes simplex in the left eye, which resulted in permanent impaired vision, and monilial oesophagitis.
Treatment for an ectopic ureterocele usually involves an upper pole nephrectomy and partial
ureterectomy. If any lower pole reflux remains unresolved, the ureterocele should be resceted from the floor of the bladder, and the lower pole of the kidney reimplanted.
