Bourns' existing circuit protection portfolio includes gas discharge tubes, metal oxide
varistors, thyristor surge protectors, transient voltage suppressor diodes and arrays, Power TVS diodes, Polymer PTC resettable fuses, TBU High-Speed Protectors, mini-breaker thermal cutoff devices, and ESD suppressors.
7, the frame is made in the form of a <<squirrel cage>> consisting of thin fiberglass rods located around the
varistor and firmly fixed by molding in aluminum electrodes.
On the other hand, ZnO in powder form and with nanometric dimensions presents a great potential for its application in solar cells [4], photocatalysts [5],
varistors [6], and gas sensors [7], among others.
The quality of the protection offered by the
varistor is given by the non-linearity coefficient ([alpha]) defined by the relation I = c.[V.sup.[alpha]], where I is the current, V is the voltage and c is a proportionality constant.
The performance of the tripler designed in this work is comparable with the ones also designed with
varistors, but apparently inferior to the tripler designed by varactor, considering the output frequency of the varactor tripler is about three times that of the
varistor triplers.
All arrester plugs are pluggable and have a thermal disconnect device to allow continuous monitoring of the
varistor's health.
The
varistor can also begin to fail acting more as a resistor and the device will then begin to overheat, causing it to fail.
The two most popular devices are the metal oxide
varistor (MOV) and the silicon avalanche device (SAD).
MLV (multi-layer
varistor)--These devices provide protection from low to medium energy transients (0.05 to 2.5 Joules) in sensitive equipment operating at 0-120 VDC.
