A lymphatic vessel counterpart of Masson's vegetant
(8,9) Various terms are used to describe this lesion such as papillary fibroendothelioma, intravascular endothelioma, papillary proliferation of the endothelium, papillary endothelioma, hemangioendotheliome vegetant
intravasculaire, l'endovasculite proliferante trombopoietique, intravenous atypical vascular proliferation, intravascular angiomatosis, IPEH, Masson's vegetant
intravascular hemangioendothelioma, Masson's pseudoangiosarcoma, intravascular endothelial hyperplasia, Masson's lesion, and papillary endothelial hyperplasia.
The differential diagnosis includes Masson vegetant
or papillary endothelial hyperplasia (a reactive endothelial proliferation associated with organizing thrombus/clot); Kimura disease (lymph node disorder, most often in Asian men, who have peripheral serum eosinophilia, reactive lymphoid follicles, follicular lysis, eosinophilic microabscesses, polykaryocytes, and IgE deposition); and angiosarcoma (freely anastomosing vessels, atypical endothelial cells, increased mitoses, necrosis).

It was first described by Masson, who designated it vegetant intravascular hemangioendothelioma. Intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia is most frequent in the dermis and subcutis of the head, neck, fingers, and trunk, where they appear as small firm, superficial masses imparting a red to blue discoloration to the overlying skin.[2,3] Occurrences in the paranasal sinus are very rare.[4,5] Herein we report an unusual case of IPEH in the ethmoid sinus.
In 1923, Masson described an atypical vascular proliferation that occurred in hemorrhoids and designated it vegetant intravascular hemangioendothelioma.
(1) He introduced the term vegetant
intravascular hemangioendothelioma, but intravascular angiomatosis, intravenous pyogenic granuloma, Masson disease, intravenous papillary endothelial hyperplasia, and intravenous vascular proliferation are the other synonyms used to describe this lesion.
One such difficult-to-diagnose entity is intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia (IPEH), also known as intravascular angiomatosis, Masson's pseudoangiosarcoma, and vegetant intravascular hemangioendothelioma.
