hermaphroditism or having both female and male organs.
This sequential
hermaphroditism makes me wonder what we should properly call this wildflower.
Disorders of sex development (DSD) are defined as congenital conditions in which there is discrepancy between chromosomal, gonadal and anatomical sex.5 The prevalence of genital anomalies is usually one in 300 births6 but the birth prevalence of true genital ambiguity may be as low as one in 5000 births.7 In 2006, the Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society (LWPES) and the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE) published a consensus statement on management of intersex disorders and proposed the term 'DSD' instead of terms like 'intersex', 'pseudohermaphroditism (PH)', '

Ovotesticular disorder is an extremely rare cause of disorder of sexual development (DSD), once known as true
hermaphroditism. Patients with ovotesticular DSD have both testicular tissue, including seminiferous tubules, and ovarian tissue, including ovarian follicles.
