Otras dos especies, Chaetodipus hispidus y
Perognathus flavus (la primera solo en la matriz con Vexillata como genero) comparten un patron similar, excepto porque no se las encuentra en la Peninsula de Baja California (BCa y Calif).
Genetic variation in the silky pocket mouse (
Perognathus flavus) in Texas and New Mexico.
(1997) captured silky pocket mice (
Perognathus flavus), deermice (Peromyscus), northern grasshopper mice (Onychomys leucogaster), Ord's kangaroo rats (Dipodomys ordii), and hispid cotton rats in saltcedars, but not in nearby sites with cottonwoods.
Four species (Sigmodon hispidus = hispid cotton rat, Tamias minimus = least chipmunk, Chaetodipus hispidus = hispid pocket mouse, and
Perognathus flavus = silky pocket mouse) with fewer than five expected dual captures but one or more observed dual captures were not evaluated further.

Morphological analysis of
Perognathus flavus and P.
Perognathus merriami.--The distribution of Merriam's pocket mouse is known from the western two-thirds of the state, but it is absent from the extreme northern Panhandle and western Trans-Pecos due to the presence of
Perognathus flavus (Lee & Engstrom 1991; Davis & Schmidly 1994).
Only a population increase of 1,309% for
Perognathus flavus in grass draws was sufficient to cause a vegetation type x year interaction.
Chaetodipus penicillatus (n = 14, n = 6) and
Perognathus flavus (n = 1, n = 1) were also captured in traps with the tail-saver device and in traps without the tail-saver device, respectively.
