Scomber japonicus, which belongs to the order Perciformes, family
Scombridae, is an oceanic pelagic fish with an oceanic migratory habit.
The BFAR said the most abundant fish species in the Davao Gulf are the Carangidae (jacks, pompanos, mackerels, runners and scads), at 32 percent, followed by
Scombridae (mackerel, tuna and bonito), at 20 percent, and Clupidae (herrings, shads, sardines, hilsa ad menhadens) at 10 percent.

Besides, the catch of these resources could be modifying the trophic dynamics of the ecosystem and biodiversity, since some of these small pelagic fish are prey to medium pelagic species (e.g., Carangidae and
Scombridae) that approach the coasts of the Magdalena Department during specific periods of the year, taking advantage of the high productivity of the ecosystem (Marquez, 1982; Moreno, 1986; Pinilla, 1986; Blanco, 1988, 1992; Garcia & Posada, 2013, 2014).
Livoneca redmanni leach (Isopoda, Cymothoidae) and Rocinela signata Schioedte & Meinert (Isopoda, Aegidae), ectoparasites of Scomberomorus brasiliensis Collette, Russo & Zavala-Camin (Ostheichthyes,
Scombridae) in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil.
Extrusion was evident also among larvae of taxa in the families Engraulidae, Sciaenidae, and
Scombridae, but less so for Clupeidae and Lutjanidae; the latter result was most likely attributable to a mismatch between the timing of sampling and spawning seasons.
Studies and statistical surveys on scombroid poisoning showed that most of the histamine poisoning cases resulted from the consumption of fish belonging to the
scombridae family - which includes mackerel, clubeidae such as sardines (Kim et al., 2004; Moreno et al., 2001) and carangidae -which includes Saury (Brillants et al., 2001; Lokuruka et al., 2004).
