The tribe can be diagnosed by seven putative synapomorphies (Voss and Carleton, 1993; Steppan, 1995; Weksler, 2006; Weksler et al., 2006): presence of long palate with prominent posterolateral pits, absence of alisphenoid strut, absence of posterior suspensory process of the
squamosal attached to tegmen tympani, absence of gall bladder, 12 thoracic vertebrae, absence of hemal arches on first caudal vertebrae, and fewer than 36 caudal vertebrae; the last two synapomorphies are reversed in several oryzomyine taxa.
The exclusion criteria were
squamosal variety of chronic otitis media, sensorineural hearing loss and patients less than 15yrs.
The petrosal is exposed on the lateral surface of the posterior braincase through a fenestra between the
squamosal and parietal bones.
The patient in the above mentioned case depicted a picture of Mastoid abscess probably as a result of Chronic otitis media,
squamosal type.
Temporals crossed by two longitudinal ridges, one continuous with the supraorbital ridges and the other bounding the
squamosal and continuous with the posterior zygomatic root.
Perforation with preexisting or congenital hearing loss, patients with sensory-neural hearing loss, patients with traumatic perforation and residual perforation in acute otitis media and patients with
squamosal disease were excluded from our study.
The
squamosal and quadrate are massivelly-built bones (Figures 3, 4A and B).
1 - 5) is limited lateral ventrally with the
squamosal region through the superior temporal crest (CTS -Figures.
* Fracture F is a diastatic fracture that follows the
squamosal and sphenoparietal sutures of the left temporal and is more visible on the endocranial surface (Figure 3).
5 Atis (fruit of Annona
squamosal) is a native of the tropical Americas and West Indies.
3H), and a
squamosal root posteriorly linked with the hamular process of the
squamosal by a continuous ridge (Fig.
4) borders the
squamosal region lateroventrally at the inconspicuous superior temporal crest (Crista temporalis - CrTS) (Fig.
