"From our review of the evidence from 17 randomized, controlled clinical trials on high
triglyceride levels, we concluded that treatment with 4 grams daily of any of the available prescription [omega-3 medications] is effective and can be used safely in conjunction with statin medicines that lower cholesterol," Ann Skulas-Ray said in an AHA news release.
"From our review of the evidence from 17 randomised, controlled clinical trials on high
triglyceride levels, we concluded that treatment with 4 grams daily of any of the available prescription choices is effective and can be used safely in conjunction with statin medicines that lower cholesterol," said Ann Skulas-Ray, an author of the study.
But while regular blood checks also measure
triglycerides, less is known about their role in CHD risk.
Good carbs contain fiber, and increasing fiber intake may lower
triglyceride levels.
Most experts recommend keeping
triglyceride levels below 200 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL), but I would advise that you aim for 150 mg/dL or less.
It contains high levels of omega-3 fatty acids, primarily EPA and DHA, which reduce inflammation and lower
triglyceride levels.
In the study, levels of blood
triglyceride were elevated in mice fed with a high-fat diet for two months, but that was later significantly reduced when strictinin was supplemented.
Being overweight or obese, having poorly controlled diabetes, a sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy eating habits, and consuming large amounts of alcohol can boost your
triglyceride levels.
FCS is a severe and rare disorder that is characterised by extremely elevated levels of
triglycerides. Due to a deficiency in lipoprotein lipase, an enzyme that helps to break down
triglycerides, people with FCS are unable to effectively metabolise large, triglyceride-rich, lipid particles called chylomicrons.
Still, lifestyle modification remains the cornerstone of managing
triglycerides. By some estimates, combining dietary changes and regular moderate-intensity exercise--such as brisk walking 30 minutes a day, five days a week--can cut
triglyceride levels by 50 percent or more.
