The Great Blondin

Best known as Charles Blondin or "The Great Blondin," Jean François Gravelet was a French tightrope walker and acrobat who achieved fame in 1859 with his many crossings of Niagara Falls on a tightrope. Robert Kennedy Dies from Gunshot Wounds (1968)

Five years after US President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, his younger brother, Senator Robert Kennedy, was shot and killed by a man named Sirhan Sirhan. The shooting took place on the night that Robert won the California Democratic presidential nomination. His body was taken to Arlington National Cemetery by train, and thousands of people gathered by the tracks to pay tribute. He was buried near his brother. William Thomas Cosgrave (1880)

Cosgrave was the first prime minister of the Irish Free State, which was created following a 1921 treaty with Britain. Serving from 1922 to 1932, he was able to maintain a democratic government despite several crises and the tensions related to the Irish struggle for sovereignty. Cosgrave was elected to British Parliament in 1918 but protested British rule by refusing to take his seat. Two years earlier, his role in the Easter Rising of 1916 earned him a death sentence. Swedish Flag Day (2022)

Constitution and Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the Swedish constitution on June 6, 1809, and the ascension of Gustavus I to the throne on June 6, 1523. It is observed throughout Sweden with patriotic meetings, parades, and the raising of flags. In Stockholm, the main celebration takes place at the Stadium, where the Swedish national anthem is sung by a chorus of several thousand voices, and the King awards flags to various schools, sports clubs, and other organizations.
