small intestine
n. The narrow, winding, upper part of the intestine where digestion is completed and nutrients are absorbed by the blood. It extends from the pylorus to the cecum and consists of the duodenum, the jejunum, and the ileum. Also called small bowel.

The long, narrow, coiled section of the intestine that extends from the stomach to the beginning of the large intestine and in mammals is made up of the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum. Nutrients are absorbed into the bloodstream from the small intestine.
