The toxic effects of
antineoplastic chemotherapy drugs used for cancer treatment have been well known since their introduction in the 1940s.
Hutchison China MediTech announces that fruquintinib capsules have been granted approval for drug registration by the National Medical Products Administration of China for the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer, or CRC, patients, who have failed at least two prior systemic
antineoplastic therapies including fluoropyrimidine, oxaliplatin and irinotecan, with or without prior use of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor or anti-epidermal growth factor receptor therapies.
ALL NURSES administering cancer drugs will now be specifically trained to do so, after an NZNO Cancer Nurses College (CNC) working group developed a set of Ministry of Health-endorsed national standards for
antineoplastic (anti-tumour) drug administration.
It has developed estimates of exposure for ionizing radiation and
antineoplastic agents, both of which are encountered in veterinary settings.
Supervised use of natural products with cancer patients is necessary because of possible interactions which can either reduce effectiveness of
antineoplastic drug agents or increase toxicity to patients via common drug metabolism pathways.
